WELCOME TO KINO AFRIKA 2010
30 years of promoting African Cinema in Norway
50 years of African Cinema and Celebration of African Independence

In the 1960s many previous African colonies gained their independence. That period was characterized by euphoria, changes, and ambitious projects. So was the cinema. Wonderful movies were produced – Those movies happened to be fine analyses of African society lost somewhere between a traditional and modern lifestyle.

Unfortunately, the States failed to build a cinema industry with viable funding and distribution instruments. However, thanks to the Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia and the FESPACO, taking place every second year in Burkina Faso, new talented young filmmakers are discovered yearly.
The main topic for this year’s KINO AFRIKA is to emphasize 50 years of captivating and promising history and perspectives of the Seventh Art in Africa.
From 9 until 12 September, KINO AFRIKA will present 10 films – works of fiction and documentaries – created from the early days of independence until Nollywood.
